Truck Loan: Four Tips for Driving Long Distances

Truckers travel long distances daily. These trips can take a toll on your mind and body, and if you’re not prepared, you can seriously damage both your vehicle and your health.

Tips For Driving Long Distances

Before you set off on your journey, consider these four tips to make your long-distance drive a pleasant one.

1. Eat well
Diners and greasy spoons line the roadways. They’re easy to pull in to, offer ample parking for trucks, and always offer cheap food.

However, eating fast food may lead to acid reflux, heartburn and even drowsiness.

To say alert and to give your digestive system a break, pack your own food if possible. If you can’t bring a cooler stocked with fruits, vegetables and light sandwiches, try a salad with grilled chicken or granola and yogurt when you stop for food.

Eggs and almonds are also great sources of protein that keep you fuller longer. Try and stay away from salt as well, as salt makes you bloated and you’ll feel dehydrated.

2. Work it out
If you can, exercise before setting off on your drive. A quick run, power walk, push-ups or whatever you do to stay in shape will give you a boost of energy that can last for hours before you hit the road.

If a beforehand workout isn’t in the cards, use your truck to workout when you stop. You can do dips between the driver and passenger seat, attach a resistance band to the door handle or even bring free weights with you and do some reps.

3. Become a talker
When you stop to eat or fuel up, start a conversation. Ask the waitress about her day, how other drivers like their particular model of truck, or anything that gets you socializing with another person.

If you’re not someone who likes talking to strangers, then you should at least talk to yourself. Sing along to music, quote movies, whatever you have to do to avoid spending all day without saying a peep.

Talking stimulates your brain which can help prevent yourself from getting drowsy while on the road.

4. Ditch the stimulants
Cigarettes, caffeine and sugar are all stimulants that can make a person very wired for a short period of time.

Then comes the crash.

You may feel invincible and alert after your third or fourth cup of Joe or after downing that energy drink, but your body will punish you once that feeling wears off. Stick to 1-2 cups of coffee per day and if you can, avoid those energy drinks altogether. They’re full of sugar.

If you’re feeling tired on the road, new studies prove that one of the best solutions is something called a ‘coffee nap.’

Drink a cup of coffee and take a nap for 30-45 minutes. The nap will help you feel rested, while the coffee will help you wake up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

WILL A TEMPORARY LOW INTEREST RATE AFFECT YOUR MORTGAGE CHANCES?

The September meeting of the U.S. Federal Reserve board did not increase the federal funds interest rate which affects the rates given to other financial instruments such as car loans and home mortgages. Although a rate hike was expected in September, the Feds nixed that plan, citing that the American economy wasn't strong enough as the prime reason. The Feds' decision, however, created what could be considered a temporary low-interest rate for the American housing market. How this will affect home buyers is unclear as how much the Fed will raise base interest rates is still unknown. All indications point to an interest rate hike that will happen soon, most likely by the end of 2015. If the rate hike is around 0.25%, homeowners will hardly notice the difference. The difference will come when, and if, the Fed continues to hike interest rates as the economy improves. Most experts agree that a 25 or 50 point rise in interest rates won't produce a visible effect on the e...
