How to Pay for the Wedding You Want, Not Just the Wedding You Can Afford

Today’s newly-engaged couple faces a multitude of pricey options when planning a wedding. This can make a wedding an expensive proposal. Couples will often settle on the particulars of their "big day" because of budget limitations, but they may not have to.

There are Many Ways Couples Can Afford Dream Weddings

Dream weddings do not have to become financial nightmares. With the average American wedding coming in at around $30,000, it is easy to see why financing a wedding is a concern. But with a little smart strategizing, couples can learn how to pay for a wedding, so they can “have their cake and eat it too!”

How to Pay for the Wedding You Want, Not Just the Wedding You Can Afford

Setting the budget and how to finance a wedding

Before diving into the wedding details, decide what is really important and prioritize. Write down the top three or four “must-haves” as a starting point. Estimate the costs for these items and treat that as a baseline.

Setting the date

Not all wedding dates are created equal. Before setting the date, consider alternative time slots. Friday evenings, Saturday mornings, Sundays and various off-season dates may offer cost savings. Couples can also pick a date multiple months out and pay as they go to make sure they are on firm financial footing once the big day arrives.

Other strategies to consider:

  • Family Funding

If parents and/or family members are going to help with a wedding loan, ask up front how much money will be contributed to the budget. Set up an account that will be used exclusively for wedding expenses.

  • Saving Up for Wedding Expenses

One of the most effective ways to save money is not to spend it. Start by cutting unnecessary expenses and put aside those dollars for wedding expenses. Consider the following:
  1. Cut out costly trips to the coffee shop.
  2. Brownbag it.
  3. Cook at home.
  4. Cut out coupons and actually use them.
  5. Fund a direct-deposit wedding account.

  • Moonlighting to Make Extra Money

Couples can also make extra money before taking out a loan for a wedding. Consider making extra cash by doing one or more of the following:
  1. House sitting
  2. Hosting garage sales
  3. Walking or watching dogs
  4. Selling items on eBay
  5. Getting a part-time job
  6. Working overtime

  • Pay Forward

Once the budget has been set, figure out how many months you have to make payments and set aside a little money every month to pay as you go. If the monthly cost isn’t attainable, a couple can use this method to determine the shortfall that will have to be financed with a wedding loan.

  • GoFundMe

A new option for soon-to-be newlyweds is setting up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the wedding or a honeymoon. Fund-raising couples can announce the donation request in lieu of a wedding gift in the invitations, and include their personalized GoFundMe URL.

How to use working capital for your grocery store

Grocery stores are an industry in high demand; people are always going to need somewhere to purchase food and other household items. Running a profitable grocery or convenience store requires hardworking employees, consistently replenished inventory and financial planning, among other aspects. If you’re reviewing your grocery store business plan and can think of costs that you’re having trouble paying for, it might be time to consider applying for additional working capital from a lender. 1.  Purchase inventory  – A well-stocked store will bring in flocks of customers, but bare shelves lacking in updated products will send them out the door. As a business owner in this industry, ensuring that your store’s inventory is regularly restocked should be a top priority. In addition, offering a wide range of products in different areas is also crucial; your customers will likely want options. Many shoppers will want healthy items as well. These products might be more expensive, but y...
